Official 2019 Contest Rules

Williams Lake Harvest Fair (WLHF) 2019 Amateur Digital Photography Competition Official Rules

The goal of this contest:

Primarily, the contest is designed to promote both entrant/exhibitors and guests of the Williams Lake Harvest Fair (the Contest Sponsors) to get close and personal with subjects and items that interested them. We hope that whatever catches your eye or captures your heart will do the same for others, and we’d like to share that experience with as many people as possible.

Additionally, though, we would love to build a portfolio of images that we can use to promote the fair again next year, and in years to come. By entering your photo into this contest, you grant to the Williams Lake Harvest Fair the irrevocable, royalty free and copyright free rights to use your photo in any way we deem fit with respect to promoting the event in social media and in print media. This pertains to all photos submitted for this contest, whether they become part of the contest, or not.

Definition of ‘amateur’:

For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is defined as one who engages in a pursuit, study, science, or sport as a pastime rather than as a profession.

Professional photographers, you’re welcome – invited even – to participate. However, there will be no distinction or credit given to your photo as having been taken by a professional.

Judging standards – first round

All images will be viewed by a small panel of Williams Lake Harvest Fair representatives. If there are any that do not qualify for or meet the following conditions, they may be eliminated. If there are too many photos submitted for any one category, a secondary judging process may be necessary to present a more palatable number of entries to the public for Round #2.

. Quality of image: focus, angle of shot, lighting

. Content of image: category, appeal to viewer, fair involvement

. WLHF identification -- e.g. ribbons, signs, etc.

Judging procedure – second round

Photos in each of the six (6) categories will be uploaded to the Williams Lake Harvest Fair Facebook page on or about September 14, 2019. Each category will have a separate photo ‘album’, and a description of the category will be included with each photo uploaded. The photos will be anonymous, they will not have the submitters name anywhere on them. Fans and followers of the WLHF Facebook page will then be asked to vote on their favourite photograph in each category by ‘LIKING’ the photo.

In the event of a tie in any of the categories, the Photo Contest panel of WLHF representatives will choose either two (2) or three (3) of the tied photos. Those photos will be reposted separately on the WLHF Facebook page. Fans and followers of the WLHF Facebook page will then be asked to comment WHY they choose either or any of the tied photos. The Photo Contest panel of WLHF representatives will then make the final decision, based on those collective comments.

In the event of a discrepancy of any kind, the decision of the Photo Contest panel of WLHF representatives will be final and binding.
